Madison Entrepreneur Pitches Hip Helmet Gear on ABC's 'Shark Tank'

Kelly Dineen, business partner appeared on Dec. 6 episode.

Madison resident Kelly Dineen appeared on ABC's "Shark Tank" this month trying to convince the show's judges to invest $150,000 in Fohawx, a company she co-founded that sells colorful helmet accessories.

Dineen and business partner Jocelyn Fine of South Orange told judges kids like Fohawx because they look cool, and parents like them because they get kids to wear their helmets.

The judges passed on investing in the Bayonne-based business, citing concerns with the $20 price tag and competitors.

Dineen told the Madison Eagle being on the show was "an amazing experience." Fine told NJ.com it was an honor to be selected for the show and "being in that spotlight really opened a ton of doors for us."

Fohawx helmet accessories attach on top of helmets with Velcro, making it look like those wearing them have outrageous Mohawks or dreadlocks.

Dineen, who is married and has three children, worked on the Toys R Us visual merchandising management team for nearly a decade. She also has founded the Matthew Kiefer Scholarship Foundation in memory of her younger brother, according to the company website.
