Madison Library Announces Virtual Matisse Lecture

The lecture, Henri Matisse: Master of Color, Magician of Modernism, will be delivered via Zoom

MADISON, NJ—The Madison Public Library announced a virtual lecture on artist Henri Matisse will be delivered by Janet Cohen Mandel, an award-winning retired teacher, on Nov. 23 at 1:30 p.m.

"Henri Matisse: Master of Color, Magician of Modernism" will focus on the French artist's long life and influential works. Matisse, (1869-1954) was a draftsman, sculptor, printer, and painter.

"The remarkable career of Henri Matisse, one of the most influential artists of the Twentieth Century, fundamentally altered the course of modern art," the announcement said. "Spanning six and a half decades, his vast creative output encompassed painting, drawing, sculpture, graphic arts, and paper cutouts."

Mandel taught English, art history, and World Languages and Cultures in New Jersey's public schools for 32 years, including 18 at Columbia High School in Maplewood. In 2004, she was awarded the Innovations in Special Education Award from the New Jersey School Boards Association and the Association of Schools and Agencies for the Handicapped.
