Madison Rotary Celebrates 18th 'Read Across America', Reads to 2nd Graders

Members of the Rotary Club of Madison promoted literacy with Madison second grade students.

The Rotary Club of Madison celebrated the 18th “Read Across America” celebration by promoting literacy in schools throughout Madison Borough.

The Rotary’s annual Literacy Project included a group of Rotarians who visited all Madison elementary schools and second grades, reading the story “Andy and Elmer’s Apple Dumpling Adventure,” according to a release from the Madison Rotary. The children’s book was written by a group of Ohio Rotarians and focuses on ethical behavior and literacy in an appealing way for children.

According to Mary Beth Cooney, program chairperson, a total of 224 students in Madison’s 12 second grades were audience to the Rotarians. The Madison Rotary volunteers visited Central Avenue School, Torey J. Sabatini School, King Road School and St. Vincent Martyr School.
