New Parking Spaces Could Bring $26K a Year

Commuters with parking permits soon could be vying for parking spaces in a parking lot closer to the , and additional daily parking spaces in another lot could generate more revenue for the borough.

Under an ordinance introduced by the Borough Council on Monday, 20 permit parking spaces in Kings Road Lot No. 3 will become $5 daily parking spaces instead of permit space, while 20 permit parking spaces will be added to the Maple Avenue Parking Lot.

The Maple Avenue lot is reserved for borough employees but has parking spaces available that a resident suggested could be used by commuters.

Borough Council President Jeannue Tsukamoto said the daily parking spaces are in high demand and the 20 additional spaces could bring in additional $26,000 in revenue a year.

Tsukamoto said resident Bob Jennings made the governing body aware parking spaces in the Maple Avenue lot were not being used and could be a revenue opportunity, and police office manager Connie Phillips and Community Service Officer Cynthia Weir suggested creating the additional daily parking spaces, Tsukamoto said.
