Police: Man Nearly Hits Cop Car, Charged With DWI
An Essex County man is facing several motor vehicle offenses after nearly striking a cop car in Madison.

A New Jersey man is facing several motor vehicle offenses in Madison after a near accident with a police patrol car, authorities said.
Madison Police arrested John Zweig, 64, of Maplewood, shortly before 11 p.m. on May 20 after a motor vehicle stop, police said. Patrolman Bart Glab, the arresting officer, provided backup for another officer on the stop.
According to Madison Police, Zweig was traveling on Main Street and allegedly came “within inches” of sideswiping Glab’s patrol car when passing by. Zweig was subsequently stopped by police for the violation.

During the stop police detected an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, authorities said. Glab determined that Zweig was operating his vehicle under the influence of alcohol, over the legal limit.
According to police, Zweig was charged with driving while intoxicated, driving while intoxicated in a school zone and other motor vehicle offenses.
