Traditional Baroque Musicians to Perform at Drew University

The Madison University is hosting "Flaming Fire," which will feature traditional Tudor-era chamber music on Nov. 1.

Travel back in time to the era of early chamber music with three personal, intimate concerts at The Concert Hall at Drew University, which continues its da Camera Concerts series on On Saturday, Nov. 1 with a concert by Parthenia with British counter-tenor Ryland Angel.

The concert is titled “Flaming Fire” and features music from Tudor-era Scotland and England with instrument and voice. Parthenia’s performances have included vocal recitations of Elizabethan poetry, Elizabethan Christmas music, songs and instrumental works from Renaissance France as well as commissioned, original works. The ensemble performs on a collection of viols, unique stringed instruments that were popular in the 16th and 17th centuries, similar to a violin.

The da Camera Concerts will wrap up with an evening of sumptuous Baroque music inspired by Arcangelo Corelli, featuring Alexander Woods on the violin and Avi Stein on the harpsichord. Woods, who has performed as a chamber musician, soloist and orchestral musician, is an assistant professor of violin at Brigham Young University.
