Trash Bin Catches Fire at DPW Garage

Firefighters filled container with foamy water to put out the blaze.

A fire that started in a carbdoard recycling bin at the garage on John Avenue was extinguished by firefighters who responded to the blaze and filled the container with foamy water, Madison's fire chief said.

A officer saw the fire and reported it Monday afternoon, said Lou DeRosa, chief of the .

Firefighters were at the scene for about an hour, he said.

The container was filled with debris and wind fanned the fire, he said. Some of the debris was still smoldering when it was removed with a backhoe the next morning, he said.

DeRosa said the cause of the fire has not been determined.
