World War II Veteran, Member of the Monuments Men, to Speak at the Madison Public Library

Harry Ettlinger, one of the 350 Monument Men who recovered priceless art that was looted by the Nazis, will speak at the library on Nov. 12.

In honor of Veterans Day, the Madison Public Library will host Harry Ettlinger, one of the 350 “Monument Men” who helped recover and save priceless art that was looted by the Nazis during World War II.

Ettlinger will visit the Madison Library on Nov. 12, the day after Veteran’s Day, at 7 p.m. Ettlinger, a German-born Jewish man, fled Europe with his family, only to return to fight as an American soldier six years later. It was then that the hero became one of the 350 “Monuments Men” who made a historic impact during World War II.

“Hear the real story—not the Hollywood version—from a man who lived it,” Nancy Adamczyk of the Madison Public Library said.
