NORWOOD, NJ — An alcohol fire damaged a warehouse for a fragrance company in Bergen County on Sunday morning, police said.

Just before 4:30 a.m., Norwood's police and fire departments were dispatched to OnScent Fragrance at 370 Chestnut St. after a "water flow" alarm went off, said Chief Christian Federici on Monday.

The first responders saw smoke from inside the building and the Fire Department forced entry, he said. That's when they saw an "active alcohol fire spreading throughout the warehouse," the chief said.

The company's website says that it creates, tests, and markets fragrances, and has a new "creative center" in Hackensack.

It partners with skin care companies and others to add a scent to their products.

Bergen County Hazmat responders attended to the scene as well. Responders left the area by 9 a.m., Federici said.

Federici said there ere no injuries and the building is still standing, but he didn't know how long it will take to make repairs so that normal operations resume.

Among the departments responding were Northvale, Harrington Park, River Vale, Emerson, Old Tappan, Aline, and from New York State: Orangeburg, Tappan, Piermont, and Sparkhill, the chief said.
