Police, K-9 Chase Of Stolen Car Ends In Arrest In Bergen County: Cops

Two New York teenagers in a stolen SUV led police on a multi-town chase that ended in Lyndhurst when the vehicle caught fire, cops said.

LYNDHURST, NJ — A New York man behind the wheel of a stolen SUV led Belleville police on a multi-jurisdictional pursuit on Sunday that ended after the vehicle became disabled and caught fire in Lyndhurst, Belleville police Detective Lt. John McAloon said.

At approximately 1 a.m., Belleville police tried to stop the Toyota RAV4, which was reported stolen out of Jersey City, in the area of Franklin Avenue and Joralemon Street, McAloon said.

After the SUV failed to stop, police then pursued the vehicle through Belleville onto Route 21 North, and traveled the highway to Route 3 East, before becoming disabled in Lyndhurst. Police said there was no crash, but that the vehicle was being driven in a reckless manner.
