BMW Stolen Out Of Mahwah Driveway: Police {Video]
The theft is thought to be part of an organized group responsible for the theft of high-end vehicles in the area.
MAHWAH, NJ — Township police are asking residents to lock their vehicles after a BMW was stolen out of a resident's driveway early Wednesday morning.
A 2016 BMW X6 was stolen out of the Swan Road driveway at about 4 a.m., said Chief James Batelli.
Shortly after 4 a.m., a Nest doorbell camera video from a nearby home showed a vehicle entering the area near the home. A short while later, the same vehicle sped away from the area, followed by the stolen BMW, Batelli said.

About 45 minutes later, the E-ZPass tag in the BMW showed it going through the Essex toll plaza on the Garden State Parkway, Batelli said.
Police said the theft is similar to other ones that occurred in the area. Thieves are taken to an area, often in another stolen vehicle, where they check vehicles' door handles. If keys are left in the vehicle, a thief enters it and drives away, the chief said.

If a vehicle is unlocked but there are no keys, a thief will steal valuables and move on to other vehicles, Batelli said.
Thieves may be using an app to determine if a key fob is in a vehicle, the chief said.
Police urge residents not to leave keys, keys fobs, or valuables inside vehicles.
Police would like residents to check their outside surveillance systems for any suspicious individuals or vehicles that were in town within the past few days. They should contact Detective Eric Larsen at 201-529-1000, ext. 217.
Residents should call 911 to report any suspicious activity.
