Car Finder App Leads Police To Theft Suspect In Bergen County: Police
A car finder app helped the owner of a stolen vehicle find his Mercedes and led officers to the theft suspect in Paramus, police said.
PARAMUS, NJ — A car finder app helped the owner of a stolen sedan find his Mercedes-Benz CLA and led police to the car theft suspect in a Paramus shopping center on Friday, Bergen County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Keisha McLean said.
The owner of the stolen Mercedes misplaced his keys and key fob at Bergen Community College, and was able to find his car at Bergen Town Center using the app. He reported the stolen car and alerted police to the location.
The suspect, identified as Jermaine Campbell, 23, of Hackensack, was arrested without incident after he was seen walking toward the car unlocking it with the key fob.

A passerby told responding officers that Campbell had just got out of the car and entered Target; police waited for the suspect after surveilling the car. At the time of the arrest, Campbell was in possession of the victim's keys and wallet.
“Vehicle thefts are at a high in our county, Sheriff Anthony Cureton said. "It’s imperative for drivers to make sure you are in possession of your keys and key fob to deter motor vehicle thefts and/or other crimes of opportunity."
