Child Skaters Fall Through Icy Lake In Bergen County: Police
Two children were skating when they fell through the thin ice and into the freezing water in Allendale, police officials said.
ALLENDALE, NJ — A young girl and boy were skating on an Allendale frozen pond when they fell through the ice and into the frigid water, police officials said.
The girl, 9, and boy, 6, were playing on the Celery Farm pond Wednesday afternoon when the ice cracked, sending them into the water, which luckily was only waist deep, police said.
"Everyone was OK, just a little cold," police Chief Michael Dillon said.

The children were never submerged, and were pulled from the icy lake by their grandparents, who then, with the help of bystanders, brought them to dry land, the chief said.
The two grandparents had fallen through while rescuing the children, and all were taken to responding patrol vehicles to warm while EMS were on the way, police said.
