Children To Swear In As Honorary Police Chiefs In Bergen County
Children with chronic conditions will swear in as honorary police chiefs for a day and get a behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement.
HACKENSACK, NJ — Children across the county with chronic health conditions will have the opportunity to receive an informational, behind-the-scenes look at law enforcement on Friday, the Bergen County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
In the annual Bergen County Chief for a Day celebration, the Bergen County Sheriff's Office will join local and county law enforcement agencies to sponsor a child aged 6 to 15 from their communities, and name them honorary "chiefs," the sheriff's office said.
Starting at 8 a.m., the child will be picked up in a local patrol car, to first have breakfast with the sheriff and chief, and then a swearing-in ceremony. At 10 a.m., the child will tour the department, and later ride with a motorcade from the Bergen County Justice Center to the SPACE event venue in Englewood for a noon lunch with guest speakers and entertainment, the sheriff's office said.
