The city hired former Chief of Detectives for the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office to examine its police department.

HACKENSACK, NJ — After recent controversies and lawsuits within the Hackensack Police Department, the city has hired a consultant to examine the way the department operates, according to a report.
Robert Anzilotti, former Chief of Detectives for the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office, is conducting the examination through his company, R3 Strategies & Solutions.
He’s being paid $60,000 by the city to review the police department’s organizational structure, overtime expenses and community engagement. The report is expected to be finished by the end of June, according to the report.

“For years now we’ve worked to improve the Police Department,” Mayor John Labrosse said in the report. “The department had a lot of issues. We had a police chief under indictment. We were sued by 22 police officers at one. It was very costly for the city. Slowly but surely, the culture changes, and they’ve come a long way.”
