Costume Shop Set To Close After 37 Years In Bergen County

Fun-Ghoul Costume, marketed as a one-stop shop for costume and masquerade needs, is closing its doors after 37 years in Rutherford.

RUTHERFORD, NJ — Fun-Ghoul Costume Company, marketed as a one-stop shop for costume and masquerade needs, is closing its doors after 37 years, the Rutherford store announced on its Facebook page.

The Fun-Ghoul shop was opened by Cliff Witmyer and his mother Cis Witmyer in 1987 as a full-service theatrical costume source specializing in custom-made costumes, rare accessories, prosthetic makeup and special effects.

Boasting over 6,000 rental costumes, Fun-Ghoul, at 155 Park Avenue, was open year-round as a resource for schools, theatre companies, and film and TV productions.

Now, with Halloween just a few days away, the iconic New Jersey shop, which had become annual tradition for some, is shutting its doors.

"This makes me completely sad!" one commenter wrote on the Facebook announcement. "Cliff, you are a legend; our memories are monumental."

Other commenters also expressed sadness after hearing the news, recalling good memories at the shop and praising how helpful the staff was.

"Noooo!" another commenter wrote. "I bought a couple cosplay stuff from there and always loved going!"
