Demolition Date Set For Iconic Hotel In Bergen County

The Sheraton Crossroads hotel, a gleaming site for those driving near the NJ/NY border, will come tumbling down this month.

MAHWAH, NJ — Some used to refer to it as "The Superman Building," a 225-room hotel near the New Jersey/New York border that had a "S" on top and rows of gleaming glass windows.

The Sheraton Crossroads Hotel, seen from Route 17 in Mahwah, finally closed its doors in December 2023, and now has a demolition date.

It's scheduled to be wrecked on April 27, the last Sunday in April, reports said.

The 22-story hotel held singles' events, car shows, and tennis tournaments since it was built in 1987. For decades before that, a Ford Motors plant occupied the site.

Mahwah officials have been quoted as saying that parts of routes 287 and 17 will be closed during the demolition, which will tentatively occur some time Sunday morning.

Patch will update this story when a demolition time is released.
