Double Whammy Road Work Projects Set to Start Monday

Road closures are expected on Route 202 and West Airmount.

Before you head out of the house Monday morning, be sure to have your detour details in order. Two major roadways in the township are undergoing roadwork projects that will shut them to through traffic, and they are both scheduled to begin on July 8.

The first project is along Route 202. The Mahwah Police issued a traffic advisory last week saying that a county milling and paving project is happening along Route 202 from Darlington Avenue and Bear Swamp Road.

Locals should expect the roadway to be closed from about 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. everyday through July 15. The advisory cautioned drivers to expect “major delays,” as a result of the closure.

The second project is a township roadwork project along West Airmount Road that includes replacing a corroded underground pipe and resurfacing the whole roadway. This work is expected to shut down the street completely for about two months.

The closure, which officials say will be reopened by September 1, will include ‘No Parking’ signs, and will limit access to some area houses and businesses.
