Dress Like Adam Sandler, Other Mahwah School Spirit Day Themes Announced

Spirit day themes for Mahwah High School were announced by a school board student representative in his report at Wednesday's meeting.

MAHWAH, NJ — Dress Like Adam Sandler Day will be one of the theme days for Spirit Week at Mahwah High School this year, according to school board student representative Edward Kane.

Kane, who will alternate meeting attendance with another student representative Ryan Stanford, announced the Spirit day themes in his report to the board on Wednesday.

He said, as a fan of the comedies Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore, that he might try to dress up as Sandler's character from those films.

Other days for Spirit Week — starting Friday, Oct. 7 through the following week — will include Hawaiian Day, Twin Day and Anything But A Backpack Day, when students bring their school stuff in other objects in place of a backpack.

Kane said his favorites from last year were a microwave and a wheelbarrow.

"I'm not sure how they even got that to the school," he said.

Also, as a part of Spirit Week, there will be a banner decorating contest, in which each high school class will design a banner in accordance with a music genre theme — freshmen, jazz; sophomores, rock; juniors, hip-hop; and seniors, country.
