Ex-Board Member Honored for 'Serving Children of Mahwah'

After a decade on the board, Angelo resigned last year.

A longtime Mahwah Board of Education member who unexpectedly left his post last year due to work commitments, was honored for his service to the school district earlier this month.

Ken Angelo, who served on the BOE from 2002 to 2012, was formally recognized at a Board of Education meeting earlier this month with a certificate and board presentation recognizing his time served, and major projects to which he contributed.

Board members highlighted some of the projects Angelo – who has been very active in youth and district sports – worked on over his decade on the board, including the building of the athletic fields at the high school.

The field, as well as other projects Angelo worked on, “have given so much back to the community,” Board President Tricia Shada, who was Angelo’s running mate several times, said. “You have certainly served the children of Mahwah well.

Board member Suzanne Curry added that it was a “pleasure,” serving alongside Angelo. “I learned so much from you,” she told him at the award presentation.

Angelo thanked the board, and said he felt, “lucky,” to have served on it.

Board members said they had also planned to honor Candace Larson for her years on the board at the meeting, but she could not make it. Larson served several terms on the volunteer board, but did not run for reelection last year.
