Exempt Firefighters Erect 9/11 Tribute in Mahwah

Annual display is up in time for next week's September 11 commemoration.

Mahwah’s 9/11 ceremony will once again feature a display of flags honoring those lost in the September 11 attacks, thanks to a group of exempt township firefighters.

Organizers Tom Dewan, Jack Gardner, Susan Gardner, Bob Franzetti, Margie Murphy and Tom Murphy Friday arranged a display of small American flags on the lawn outside the township’s 9/11 tree, across from Winter’s Pond.

The current display is the third annual. It is made up of 403 flags, representing the 403 police officers and firefighters who perished on 9/11.
