The warning was sent out just before a flood advisory for Bergen County, which refers to potential for flooding of small streams and in poor-drainage areas.
In the warning and advisory, the NWS cautioned motorists against trying to drive through flooded areas, and said to "turn around" when encountering flooded roads.
"Most flood deaths occur in vehicles," the agency said.
