Jitney Driver Of Multi-Passenger Bus Speeds Away From Cops In Bergen County: Police
A driver of a low-fare, "jitney" vehicle was pulled over, became angry with police and sped away, police said.
FAIRVIEW, NJ — A driver of a low-fare, "jitney" vehicle containing at least 10 passengers sped away from Fairview police when asked for his license and registration, Detective Lt. Michael Martic said.
Adrian Marin was charged with second-degree eluding and a disorderly persons offense for endangering the welfare of the passengers. He also received 12 motor vehicle summonses related to the incident, which occurred in June, Martic said.
An officer pulled the jitney bus over in the area of Bergen Boulevard and Harding Place early that morning, and after asking Marin for the information, the driver became angry and screamed at the officer. He then hit the gas pedal and sped off south on Kennedy Boulevard, with 10 to 12 passengers inside the vehicle, police said.

Due to Martin's erratic driving behavior, the officer did not pursue, so as to not put the passengers' lives at risk. As luck would have it, the same officer spotted Marin driving the bus on Monday, and was able to identify and apprehend him, police said.
Marin complained of chest pains and was taken to an area hospital prior to his transport to the Bergen County Jail, police added.
