Ken Turns 100: Find Out Bergen County Man's Secret To A Long Life

Ken's neighbors in his Bergen County town threw a party when he turned 100 last week. He shared several secrets to a long life.

WYCKOFF, NJ — Ken Carluccio turned 100 last Wednesday, and his neighbors in Wyckoff threw a party to celebrate.

When Carluccio was born, Calvin Coolidge had just been elected president, succeeding Warren G. Harding, who'd died in office the year before.

Carluccio was born at what was then St. Mary's Hospital in Hoboken.

He went on to marry a woman named Mary, and they were together for 58 years before she passed away. He's the father of three children, grandfather of six, and great-grandfather of one.

"The entire neighborhood came out to celebrate him," said Ann Smith, his neighbor of 20 years, last week. "Ken is an artist by nature and an industrial designer by training. He takes great pride in his house and enjoys working in his garden or doing upgrades to his home. He always 'measures twice and cuts once!'

Smith noted, "His secret to longevity is 'You gotta keep moving.' "

She added, "One other secret he shared was staying engaged both physically and mentally. A talented painter to this day, it keeps him focused and relaxed."

Carluccio is also a die-hard Yankee fan, she said.

"The entire neighborhood on Glendale Road in Wyckoff and his family gathered to wish him well," Smith said.
