The Latest Mahwah Coronavirus Updates

Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Mahwah and Bergen County.

MAHWAH, NJ — According to most recent numbers from the Township of Mahwah, 37 people have been diagnosed with the new coronavirus in the township. The number has climbed by 17 diagnoses since the town's last update on Thursday, March 26.

In an effort to prevent the virus from spreading further, the township announced several closures, cancellations and postponements in the coming weeks.

  • The Township Hall has been closed to the public until further notice
  • The April 6 Planning Board meeting is canceled. Another meeting is scheduled for April 20.
  • All Bergen County and Mahwah Township parks are closed to the public.
  • A drive-through testing site has opened at Bergen Community College. The testing site is set to conduct 500 tests per day on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. It's closed Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
    • The testing site will be open from 8 a.m. until it completes 500 tests. Only New Jersey residents with signs of COVID-19 can be tested. Priority is given to symptomatic residents with a cough, a fever over 99.6 degrees and shortness of breath.
    • When the Bergen Community College testing site is closed, residents can visit the PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel, which is open to New Jersey residents with serious symptoms of COVID-19 on Wednesday, April 1, and Friday, April 3.
  • Another drive-through testing center at the Bergen New Bridge Medical Center tests symptomatic patients on an appointment-only basis. Testing at this site is only available to residents with a prescription from a doctor or telehealth doctor.

Symptoms of the new coronavirus include fever, fatigue, dry cough and tightness or pressure in the chest.

Residents are encouraged to stay home and avoid others if they're showing these symptoms or if they've tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The best defense against the spread of the virus is staying home as much as possible, avoiding contact with sick people, maintaining six feet of distance from others when in public and frequently washing one's hands.
