Mahwah May Add Bus Shelters Along Franklin Turnpike
The town is looking at two to three possible locations on the south side of the street.

Franklin Turnpike may be getting some new bus shelters along the south side of the roadway, and township officials are preparing a presentation to propose exactly where the shelters would be.
According to a presentation from Township Engineer Mike Kelly at a Mahwah council meeting Thursday night, he has reviewed possible locations for shelters along the street with the Mahwah Police Department, and will be making a recommendation report to the council at its next meeting.
Kelly commented briefly on some of the spots that are being considered. Possible locations include a spot north of Miller Road near the Gulf gas station, and a spot across from Fox Lane by the diner.

A third possible location is opposite Stephens Lane. However, Kelly said engineers were reluctant to propose a shelter there because it is in front of several township homes.
But, “a good number of people do catch the bus there,” he said.

Kelly said he will not likely include plans for any bus shelters on the north side of the street because the majority of people waiting for the bus are traveling south. Those commuting back home and getting off in the north direction usually get picked up, he said.
Kelly is expected to give a full report with recommendations on where exactly the shelters should go at the council’s August 22 meeting.
