Mahwah Songwriter Receives Prestigious Arts Scholarship

Kelly Flatley received the highest honor for high school choral performers and won a songwriting contest at Bergen County Academies.

MAHWAH, NJ — A Mahwah High School alumnus has received the prestigious Haas Scholarship for Excellence in the Arts.

Flatley co-wrote "Crocs! The Musical," which was performed at New York Summerfest 2018. As a senior in high school she received the National Choral Award and the 2017 winner of the Bergen County Academies Songwriting Contest.

Flatley is a 2018 graduate of Bergen County Academies and is a freshman at Berklee College of Music in Boston. She received the Berklee World Tour Scholarship and a scholarship from the Federal Law Enforcement Foundation for her accomplishments and was named to the dean's list.

She has sung as a member of various choirs at Madison Square Garden and Carnegie Hall.

Flatley is an aspiring actress as well. She starred in a new musical, "Social Studies."
