Friday was tough for the five Mahwah wrestlers in the NJSIAA state tournament in Atlantic City. Though two will get wrestle on Saturday, none will compete for the state title.
Ryan Sblandorio (160) and Luke Pragdat (189) came in on day one with first-round byes before losing in the pre-quarterfinals to Benjamin Fanjoy of Cherokee and Dallas Winston of Jackson, respectively. Sblandorio fell 7-2, while Pragdat battled Winston to a 9-5 loss. The two will compete in wrestleback matches Saturday for a shot at the conciliation championship.
The rest of the crew didn't make it past the preliminary round. Ryan Walker (171) lost to Dillon Geoghegan of Brearly 5-1. David Heitman (215) lost to Matt Bauer of Bordentown, getting pinned at 3:52. Cody Mann (heavyweight) lost to Peter Wolmart of Randolph by pin at the 2:17 mark.
