Man Who Fatally Stabbed Wife In Mahwah Was Sleepwalking, Lawyer Says: Report
A man who fatally stabbed his wife in their Bergen County home was sleepwalking, his lawyer told a news outlet this week.
MAHWAH, NJ — A 76-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his wife to death in their Mahwah home in 2021 was sleepwalking, his attorney said in a report on NJ.com on Wednesday.
Prosecutors had charged Dieter Zimmermann, who was 73 at the time, with first-degree murder in the staying of Jacqueline Zimmermann, 69, on Jan. 12 of that year.
The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office said at the time that Mahwah police responded to a domestic violence call at 27 Indian Field Ct. around 7:45 a.m. Police found Zimmerman with scratches and a bleeding cut on his finger, authorities said.

His wife was found dead in an upstairs bathroom, prosecutors said.
The pair shared three children as well as several grandkids, says the report on NJ.com.

As a trial date nears, defense attorney Brian Neary of Hackensack told the news outlet Wednesday that the defense is unusual, but Zimmerman had a "mental disease." Read more here.
