Meet The Candidates For Mahwah Mayor 'Virtually' Oct. 13

Hear from Mahwah mayoral candidates, Howard Waldrop and James Wysocki, during the upcoming event, which will take place via Zoom.

MAHWAH, NJ — The Mahwah Public Library's Board of Trustees will give voters an opportunity to virtually meet the candidates for Mahwah mayor Tuesday, Oct. 13.

According to the library, the event is designed to give the mayoral candidates an opportunity to introduce themselves and let voters know where they stand on certain issues.

Mayor John Rothhas has opted to not seek re-election. Earlier this year, some residents urged Mahwah's mayor to step down after making headlines for admitting he drank too much, took off his pants and passed out during a gathering at a township employee's house. Roth became mayor after voters recalled the previous one, Bill Laforet.

Mayoral candidates, Howard Waldrop and James Wysocki, will take part in the event and will have a chance to talk directly to voters and let them know why they are the best person for the job.

Wysocki is a current councilman, retired Mahwah police officer, volunteer firefighter and lifelong resident of Mahwah.

"I am running for mayor because I want to change the way the mayor’s office and administration operate," he said on his official Facebook page. "In this new era, there needs to be more frequent and open communication with residents, better and more fair treatment of municipal employees and more collaboration with the township council to accomplish all the crucial initiatives needed to move Mahwah forward."

The mayoral event will take place at 7:30 p.m. and will be held online as a Zoom webinar and streamed live.

Waldrop hopes to be a new voice for Mahwah. He is a graduate of St. Peter's University, a community activist and currently the vice president of the Indian Field of Mahwah Board of Directors.

"To keep what we have—while building for an even better future—we need new approaches to town governance. New ways of recognizing the challenges we face—and a new urgency in meeting those challenges, including keeping taxes low, revitalizing the downtown, establishing reliable emergency/cellular service for thousands of disenfranchised residents, and supporting our township employees and first responders," Waldrop said on his official website.
