Police Arrest Mahwah Hotel Stabbing Suspect In Florida

A woman was arrested in Florida in connection with a stabbing at a hotel in Mahwah, police said.

MAHWAH, NJ — A woman was arrested in Florida last week in connection with a stabbing at a hotel in Mahwah in spring, police said.

Police said that at 6 a.m. on May 3, they responded to a hotel in town after getting a report of a medical emergency.

Police determined that a victim had been stabbed during an altercation and the suspect had fled the scene.

The suspect was soon identified as a woman named Yorhelys Montilla.

Attempts to locate her were unsuccessful, so the Mahwah Police Department turned to the public for assistance.

Acting on a tip, Detective Lt. Kevin Hebert contacted the FBI and provided them with a possible location of the suspect.

On July 7, members of the FBI and Pinellas County, Fla. Sheriff's Department executed an arrest warrant at a hotel room in Florida.

Montilla was taken into custody without incident, police said.

She remained at the Pinellas County jail to await extradition to New Jersey to face charges of aggravated assault and weapons offenses.
