“We have had requests from parents to launch this summer program intended for the serious student with sincere interest who brings some existing IT knowledge and experience,” said Rosa Diaz-Mulryan, Ramapo College assistant vice president for innovative and professional learning. “Knowledge and experience installing hardware, software and drivers are very helpful in order to keep pace in this accelerated IT class. Experience connecting to Wi-Fi sites and pairing Bluetooth devices are also helpful.”
During the program, high school students gain the skills and knowledge necessary to install, upgrade, repair, configure, optimize, troubleshoot and perform preventative maintenance on basic personal computer hardware and operating systems in a home or business setting. Networking and data security are also covered. Students are also prepared for two exams that make up the A+ certification: 220-801 and 220-802. Following program completion, students may opt to purchase exam vouchers online and take the certification exams at a local testing center. Every student also receives a backpack with a manual and a computer technician toolkit to take home and continue their practice.
