'Sandlot' Wiffle Ball Club In Mahwah Ends Inaugural Season
A new wiffle ball club started with an idea presented by a young boy to the township's youth sports booster program.

MAHWAH, NJ — A new wiffle ball club in Mahwah started with a letter written by a young boy to the township's youth sports booster program, outlining what such a club would look like.
Along with the boy's father, Mahwah Youth Sports Boosters President Brett Coplin, who received the handwritten letter, developed a three-week, nine-night program that allowed the kids to "just play," Coplin said.
The "Sandlot" Wiffle Ball Club hosted pick-up games and a few home run derbies for kids in grades 4 through 8 throughout the month of August. Depending on the night, 20 to 40 kids would participate, Coplin said, and play either at Commodore Perry or Fardale Fields in Mahwah.

Finishing the season with a night to watch the club's namesake film, "The Sandlot," on a large projector screen, the program will return next year, Coplin said.
"I am looking forward to running it again next summer," Coplin said.
