Sheraton Mahwah To Close 'For Renovations' Starting Dec. 14
A notice on hotel booking websites says the Sheraton in Mahwah will close "for renovations," while a redevelopment is planned.
MAHWAH, NJ — A month after the Sheraton in Mahwah issued a notice to the state that it plans to lay off 91 workers on Dec. 15, a message has appeared on hotel booking websites saying the iconic facility will close "for renovations" on Dec. 14.
The hotel is only allowing on-line reservations to be made through the night of Dec. 13.
A notice on various hotel websites says, "This property will be closed from Dec. 14, 2023 to May 31, 2024 for renovations and will resume operation once the renovation is complete (completion date subject to change)."

The owners of the Crossroads Corporate Center property — Crossroads Developers Associates LLC and Garden Crossroads LLC — have submitted plans to the town of Mahwah to build warehouses on the property in two phases. Building A will tentatively be 671,072 square feet and Building B will be 1,015,752 square feet.
Last week, when Patch reported the layoffs, the national and local hotel management declined to comment on whether or when the hotel would close.

Patch asked again about the hotel's future on Wednesday, but received no response as of this writing. An update will be posted if more information is received.
On Wednesday, one reader of this story wryly commented on Facebook, "The renovation includes transforming into a warehouse."

The owners of the 22-story hotel — an iconic gleaming, glass-covered structure seen from Route 17 — initially fought the town's plans to redevelop the area.
Last week, the hotel's reservation page was reflecting room prices of more than $800 per night starting in 2024, but now says all 2024 dates are sold out.
