Snow Hammers Mahwah, Schools Close for Weather

Schools close today as the Village recovers from overnight snow fall, hazardous conditions Monday.

Mahwah schools are closed today as the towns prepare for wet, freezing and hazardous conditions Monday after Winter Storm Linus is expected to drop a total of 8 to 12 inches of snow in Bergen County.

There will also be up to 0.5 an inch of ice on the ground, causing hazardous conditions on roads and side walks, according to the National Weather Service. Speed restrictions are in affect on the Garden State Parkway, the New Jersey Turnpike and other major highways as accidents and downed wires continue to plague travellers around the state. Mahwah Mayor Laforet sent a nixle alert Monday reminding residents to use caution if they must travel, citing that the roadways are slippery in some pots.

The National Weather Service issued a “Winter Storm Warning” Sunday saying a “significant” storm could possibly dump up to three to nine inches of snow in New Jersey, and much rain, sleet and snow in South Jersey.

The winter storm warning will remain in affect through Monday at 6 p.m. There is the potential for 0.3 to 0.5 of an inch of ice in Mahwah, according to the National Weather Service.
