MAHWAH, NJ — A new 3+1 bachelor's degree path between Ramapo College of New Jersey and Sussex County Community College will enable students to save thousands of dollars on a degree from Ramapo while attending classes at Sussex.

Sussex students pursuing a four-year degree who enroll in the program with Ramapo can save approximately $7,000 as compared to those who transfer after earning their first associate's (two-year) degree.

Students in the program can remain on the Sussex campus while taking the third year of Ramapo's bachelor's degree curriculum. Upon successful completion of the third year, students will take the fourth-year curriculum on Ramapo's Mahwah campus.

Before enrolling in the program, students must apply and be accepted into the Advanced Associate's of Continuous Studies at Sussex. Once accepted, students are required to meet with a Ramapo College counselor who will help them transition to the four-year college to earn their bachelor's degree.

“This partnership only strengthens the existing relationship between Ramapo and Sussex," Christopher Romano, Ramapo's vice president of strategic enrollment, said. "It doubles down on the two commitments that both institutions share and pride themselves on: student success and affordability."

An official signing for the degree path was held Friday at the Sussex Newton campus, attended by Sen. Steven Oroho (R-24) and several other elected officials.

“We are delighted to partner with Ramapo College on this initiative, as both institutions already had an established history of collaborative ventures through various articulation agreements," Kathleen Okay, Sussex's senior vice president of academic affairs, said. "It is a win for the students and the county."

The programs slated for approval for the Fall of 2023 include Global Studies and Business, Social Science with a focus on Criminal Justice, and Psychology.
