SWAT Team Arrests Mahwah Man And Teen For Saddle River Shooting: Prosecutor

A SWAT Team helped arrest a man in Mahwah on Thursday in connection with a shooting at a Saddle River home this month, prosecutors said.

MAHWAH, NJ — A SWAT Team helped arrest a man in Mahwah Thursday in connection with a shooting in Saddle River earlier this month, prosecutors said.

Both Sha'zeik Dvis, 20, of Mahwah and Jeremiah I. Rivera, 19, of Saddle River have been charged in connection with the July 15 shooting in Saddle River, said Bergen County prosecutors.

Prosecutors said that around 6:16 p.m. that night, Saddle River police and other local agencies responded to a report of shots fired outside a private residence on Chestnut Ridge Road in Saddle River.

No injuries were reported, prosecutors said.

During the investigation, prosecutors said, "Detectives discovered ballistic evidence and were able to ascertain that the shooting was connected to an ongoing dispute between two groups of men."

They said that two vehicles, both occupied by "several" men, arrived at the residence on Chestnut Ridge Road. A verbal dispute ensued with a resident of the home, prosecutors said.

Rivera, the resident, retrieved a handgun and fired in the direction of one group of men, who drove away.

But the men returned, continued a dispute, and multiple shots were fired at them, prosecutors say.

Investigators say nine of the gunshots were fired by Davis, an acquaintance of Rivera. One of his shots struck a vehicle with men in it, prosecutors say, although no one was harmed.

Rivera also provided false or misleading information to detectives, prosecutors say.

SWAT Team Involved

Rivera was charged the next day with second-degree possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, second-degree providing false information to law enforcement, third-degree aggravated assault by attempting to cause bodily harm, and other charges, prosecutors. said.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail, made a first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, and was ordered released to await further court action, prosecutors said.

Davis was later charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, third-degree aggravated assault by attempting to cause bodily harm, and related charges.

He was arrested Thursday in Mahwah with the assistance of the Bergen County Regional SWAT Team and the Mahwah Police Department, prosecutors said.

He was taken to the Bergen County Jail to await his first appearance in Bergen County Superior Court in Hackensack, prosecutors said.
