Tow Driver Injured Working On Site Of Route 3 Car Crash

A tow driver was seriously injured after being hit by a car while working on a damaged vehicle.

RUTHERFORD, NJ — A tow driver was left injured Saturday night after he was struck by a vehicle while working on the site of a car crash on Route 3, according to Rutherford police.

The victim, a tow driver from Nick’s Towing Service in Rutherford, was working on a damaged vehicle that was involved in a car crash that left two vehicles needing to be towed. Two passengers in one of the vehicles sustained minor injuries and were taken to a local hospital.

The initial incident occurred at approximately 9:45 p.m. and around 10:30 p.m. officers on scene heard another car crash. The accident involved 3 cars, one of which careened through the emergency vehicles and lane closures, hitting the rear of one of the damaged vehicles from the initial car crash and striking the tow driver.

According to police, he suffered severe injuries and was treated on site. He was then taken to Hackensack University Medical Center by Rutherford ambulance and Hackensack University medics.

Rutherford Police personnel are investigating the accident. There is nothing at this point in the investigation that points to criminality, police said in a statement.
