Woman, 61, Dies In Hit-And-Run Crash In Bergen County: Prosecutor

A pedestrian woman was left dead after a hit-and-run crash that occurred late last week in Bergen County, the prosecutor's office said.

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A man was charged in a connection with a hit-and-run crash that left a 61-year-old pedestrian dead, according to authorities.

Justinian Cuevasmetemi, 66, of Passaic, stands accused of driving the Toyota SUV that hit the female victim Friday in Carlstadt, Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella said.

The victim, identified as 61-year-old Deborah Peko-Lillis, was hit at about 10:20 p.m. as she crossed Hoboken Road, and then taken to an area hospital where she was pronounced dead, Musella said.

Cuevasmetemi drove away prior to police arrival, and was charged with leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, and with endangering an injured victim, the prosecutor's office said.

He was also served with multiple motor vehicle summonses. He was remanded to the Bergen County Jail pending an initial court appearance, the prosecutor said.
