Body Found In Vehicle Submerged In Manalapan Retention Basin: Police
One person was found dead in the vehicle, police say.
MANALAPAN TOWNSHIP, NJ — A body was found inside a vehicle submerged in a Manalapan Township retention basin Saturday afternoon, police said.
According to the Manalapan Township Police Department, at about 1:45 p.m., officers responded to a retention basin off Comtois Road in reference to a report of a vehicle submerged in the water.
When officers arrived, the open trunk of a vehicle was observed above the water line in the retention basin, with the front portion of the vehicle submerged, police said.

Water rescue teams were dispatched and arrived at the scene, subsequently locating one person deceased in the vehicle, police said.
There are no witnesses who saw the vehicle entering the water, police said.

The incident is pending further investigation and positive identification of the deceased, police said.
Responding agencies included the Manalapan Township Police Department, Manalapan Fire Company, Englishtown Fire Department, Millstone Fire Department, Hightstown Fire Department, Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office Maritime Emergency Response Team, and Middlesex County Medical Examiner’s Office.
