Revolutionary Pieces: Jigsaw Puzzle Tournament

In celebration of Monmouth 250 and National Puzzle Day, the Headquarters Library in Manalapan will be hosting a jigsaw puzzle competition on Saturday, January 31 from 2:00 - 4:00 pm.

Basics

• All teams will be assigned a table and given the same American Revolution-themed 500-piece puzzle to be revealed at the start of the competition.
• Teams may bring boxes, bowls, or trays to help sort puzzle pieces, subject to approval before the start of the competition. Two sorting aids per team are allowed. 
  • You may also use the box the puzzle comes in to sort pieces, which will not count towards your sorting aid total.
  • No other aids are allowed. 
• Any questions about rules and their enforcement should be directed to library staff. Decisions of the library staff are final. 

Conduct

• Teams should behave courteously and refrain from loud conversation, impeding the areas of other teams, and anything that may disrupt other teams from working on their puzzles, or staff from overseeing the competition. Those who are disruptive will be disqualified.
• Assistance from non-team members is not allowed. The competition area will be closed to those not participating in the competition. 
• There will be no breaks, but individuals may use the restroom or take breaks as long as they are not disruptive to other teams. Time will not be given back for breaks. 

Winning

• The first team to finish will win. If no one completes the puzzle in the allotted time, then the team with the least number of pieces left will win. There will be a 2-hour time limit. 
  • In the event of a tie, there will be a 5-minute sudden death round that will allow the tied teams to try to finish the puzzle. If no one finishes in that time, then the team with the least number of pieces left will win. 
• Upon puzzle completion, the team should raise their hands and say "FINISHED!" so staff can record the time of completion. Puzzles will be checked to confirm they have been assembled correctly before the winner is finalized, and other teams should continue to work on their puzzles until then. 

Registration is required and space is limited. Teams can be up to four people. Enter with your family, a group of friends, or as an individual to be assigned a team on the day of the event. Must be 12 years old or older to register individually. Younger children may register on a team with their parent or guardian. Please arrive 30 minutes ahead of time to check-in. Registration is limited to 25 teams/100 individuals.
