Celebrating the Spirit of Unity
YMCA of Greater Monmouth County Opens its Door to All During "Welcoming Week," Sept. 16-20
The YMCA of Greater Monmouth County will open its doors to all during national Welcoming Week, Sept. 16-20, reaffirming its commitment to creating a space where everyone feels a sense of belonging, no matter their background.
The annual event is hosted at YMCAs across the country in partnership with Welcoming America, a nonprofit that promotes inclusivity, diversity, and community-building with a strong focus on newcomer immigrants.
“By bringing people together, we’re embracing the rich diversity within our communities and helping to encourage understanding and respect for one another,” said YMCA President and CEO Laurie Goganzer. “Whether you're here to enjoy a Zumba dance class, share a meal or learn about valuable resources, Welcoming Week is a time to celebrate what unites us as a community.”

During Welcoming Week, new residents and long-time neighbors are invited to come together to swim and workout at the Y at no cost. The committee began its work in the wake of George Floyd’s death and ensuing social unrest that shook the nation. The committee now partners with local organizations and volunteers to advance diversity and inclusion.
