Drink Local At These Breweries Near Manalapan For National Beer Day

Whether you prefer a lager, ale, stout, gose, or another type of brew, here's a list of local breweries to consider raising a toast.

MANALAPAN, NJ — Many breweries in and around Manalapan will be open to commemorate the end of Prohibition with one of the world's most popular alcoholic beverages: beer.

Prohibition was enacted in 1920, prohibiting the sale, manufacture, importation, and transportation of alcoholic beverages containing more than 0.5 percent alcohol.

The 1933 Cullen-Harrison act legalized wine and beer with a low alcohol content — 3.2 percent, historical records say.

“I think this would be a good time for a beer,” Roosevelt said upon signing the act into law on March 21, 1933. It had been 13 years since it was legal to drink even low-alcohol beer in the U.S.

The 21st Amendment, passed on Dec. 5, 1933, repealed Prohibition altogether nine months later. Now, National Beer Day is celebrated across the U.S. every April 7.
