Fraud, Harassment, Simple Assault: Manalapan Police Blotter

Manalapan Police reported seven incidents of fraud from Aug. 21 through Aug. 25.

MANALAPAN, NJ — Manalapan Police reported incidents of fraud, harassment, simple assault and more from Aug. 21 through Aug. 25.

Aug. 21
A 48-year-old Jackson Township resident reported that someone mistakenly received a check for $4,285.22 that was issued to them and proceeded to unlawfully cash the check.

Around 6:30 p.m., Patrolman Christopher Capuzzo saw a person park his vehicle and proceed to “act suspiciously” around Union Hill Road and Wild Turkey Way. Once Ptlm. Capuzzo made contact with the driver, he determined that he was driving while under the influence. The driver was then arrested and brought to Manalapan Township Police Headquarters, where he was processed and released with several motor vehicle summonses pending a future court date in Manalapan Township Municipal Court.

Aug. 22
A 50-year-old Manalapan resident reported that they were harassed by someone they met on a dating app.

A 67-year-old Manalapan resident reported receiving fraudulent messages pretending to be the cantor of their synagogue. The person asked the resident to purchase gift cards and relay the information on the cards to help a member of the community who is battling cancer. The resident bought four gift cards for $800 before realizing the request was fraudulent.

A 20-year-old Freehold Township resident reported that they were physically assaulted in a business parking lot in Manalapan following a traffic dispute. Criminal complaint procedures were provided.

Aug. 24
A 42-year-old Neptune resident and a 73-year-old West Orange resident had a verbal dispute that became physical over property while at a business on Wilson Avenue. No injuries were reported and neither party wished to pursue the matter.

Aug. 25
A 66-year-old Manalapan resident reported a fraudulent incident that occurred on Friday, Aug. 22, when they provided their bank username to someone they didn’t know over the phone. After providing this information, the victim was advised of a fraudulent transaction in the amount of $10,781.21.

A 47-year-old Old Bridge resident reported that someone they knew called their place of employment in Manalapan and made threatening comments toward them.

A Manalapan resident reported that someone they did not know used a friend’s Facebook Messenger to message the victim and try to have the victim send them money. The victim did not send any money after becoming suspicious, nor did they sustain any monetary loss.

A 42-year-old Manalapan resident reported that someone they did not know, posing as a law enforcement officer, alleged that they had a warrant out for their arrest.

An 89-year-old Manalapan resident reported being threatened by a client at their place of employment over a financial matter.

A 23-year-old Manalapan resident reported that someone they did not know had applied for a Capital One credit card in their name, which was eventually delivered to the reporting party’s address.

A 68-year-old Manalapan resident reported that a fraudulent credit card transaction appeared on their credit card statement in the amount of $1,394.24.
