Free Comic Book Day: Where To Get One In Manalapan

MANALAPAN, NJ — One of the comic book industry's most anticipated annual events returns to participating stores across the nation, including one in Manalapan.

Over 2,000 stores around the country take part in Free Comic Book Day, which is intended to promote comics and attract new readers to independent comic book stores across North America.

The participating stores will include Zapp Comics & Cards, located at 700 Tennent Rd, Manalapan Township.

Zapp will run sales from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at both its Manalapan and Wayne locations. The store will also offer the following:

• $20 mystery bags with 10 comics and one autograph per bag
• 50 percent off yellow tagged wall books, all bin back issues, all comic book sets, all manga and all trade paperbacks and hardcovers
• 25 percent off all toys, statues, action figures and Funko Pop Vinyl's

This is the 20th anniversary of the national event, which began in 2002 on the day after the release of the first "Spider-Man" film. It is held annually on the first Saturday of May, typically on the same weekend as the release of a major film based on a Marvel comic.

This year's Free Comic Book Day takes place the same weekend as the release of the latest Marvel superhero film, "Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness."

As the name implies, stores will give away comic books to shoppers on Saturday. Around 50 comic books will be free of charge. Click here for a complete list.

Individual stores may limit how many free comics each person may pick from each category. Each store may also have additional giveaways for the special occasion. Check with your location for details.
