ENGLISHTOWN, NJ — Power was restored around noon Friday to customers affected by a downed, live electrical wire at Hamilton and Irving streets, a JCP&L spokesperson said.

Englishtown Police Chief Peter S. Cooke Jr. said wind blew down a limb, which then took down a wire. The wire then ignited right on the street.

There were no injuries or major property damage, he said.

"But we will need a new stop sign there," he added. The wire kept striking the intersection stop sign so it's charred now, he said.

You can see his video of the scene on the Police Department social media site here.

The Englishtown Fire Department responded to the scene, Cooke said.

Mayor Daniel Francisco lives on the block, and he said he was out of power at his home for a while and was out in the neighborhood discussing the incident with residents.

A check of JCP&L online records at 10:30 a.m. showed 200 customers were without power in Englishtown.
