Manalapan Man Shot By Old Bridge Police In Stabbing: Prosecutor

Christopher Serrano, 42, of Manalapan, is charged with attempted murder in the scissors stabbing of a 55-year-old woman in Old Bridge.

MANALAPAN, NJ — A man shot and wounded by Old Bridge police Sunday is from Manalapan, and now has been charged with stabbing a woman at the Hampton Inn in Old Bridge, Middlesex County Prosecutor Yolanda Ciccone said Monday.

Christopher Serrano, 42, of Manalapan, is charged with attempted murder in the stabbing with scissors of the 55-year-old female victim, according to Ciccone's office.

Old Bridge police were called to the hotel on Spring Valley Road at about 3 a.m. Sunday, March 3, for a report of a disturbance.

There they encountered a man, now identified as Serrano, stabbing a woman with scissors, according to Ciccone's office.

In response, officers shot at and struck Serrano, the prosecutor's office said.

Serrano is currently at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital being treated for his injuries from the shooting, the prosecutor's office said.

The victim, who authorities said is from North Carolina, was brought to the same hospital with multiple stab wounds. She has been treated for her injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, the prosecutor's office said.

Serrano and the woman had an "online relationship," according to the prosecutor's office.

Serrano was charged Monday with:

  • First-degree attempted murder.
  • Fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.
  • Third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.

The investigation into the matter is ongoing. Anyone with information or surveillance footage of the area is asked to call Detective Jose Rosario of the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office at 732-745-3289.
