NJ American Water To Acquire Gordon’s Corner Water Company

The privately-owned company currently serves about 15,000 customers throughout parts of Manalapan, Colts Neck and Marlboro.

MANALAPAN, NJ — NJ American Water has reached an agreement to acquire Gordon’s Corner Water Company, a privately-owned water company that serves about 15,000 customers in parts of Manalapan, Colts Neck and Marlboro.

Located northwest of NJ American Water's Monmouth System, NJ American Water said it plans to gradually connect the Gordon’s Corner system with its systems in Monmouth County in order to maintain reliable service.

According to NJ American Water, this will create additional redundancy in the region, which experiences increased demand for water during peak tourism and irrigation months. The project also aims to help ensure an adequate water supply to the area.

“We are honored to have the opportunity to serve customers in parts of Colts Neck, Manalapan and Marlboro, and we appreciate that the leadership at Gordon’s Corner Water Company is entrusting us with this privilege,” said NJ American Water President Mark McDonough.

“This acquisition is primarily about ensuring continuity of service for Gordon’s Corner customers as their company transitions out of ownership,” McDonough continued. “Integrating Gordon’s Corner into our operations will help support long-term stability in the region’s overall stressed water supply.”

Through the acquisition agreement of Gordon's Corner Water Company, NJ American Water said it intends to adopt the current rates of Gordon’s Corner at closing.

The NJ Board of Public Utilities (NJ BPU) regulates the company’s rates, and any future rate change would be reviewed and approved by the board. Should the NJ BPU approve the acquisition, officials said the transaction is expected to be completed by mid-2026.

“This transaction represents the right succession plan for Gordon’s Corner Water Company, ensuring that our customers remain at the forefront of every decision,” said David Ern, President of Gordon’s Corner Water Company. “By selling to New Jersey American Water, we are prioritizing the long-term quality and reliability of water service for generations to come.”

The acquisition of Gordon’s Corner Water Company comes after Veolia Water NJ completed its acquisition of the Manalapan Township Water System in October.

Through Veolia's acquisition, the town’s newly acquired water system is expected to serve about 3,500 homes and businesses throughout Manalapan, with planned projects ranging from water main and valve replacements to the construction of a new drinking water treatment facility.
