Now that the unofficial end of summer is here, take a look at our list of five things to do at Sandy Hook this September
- Visit for free: there are no parking fees after Labor Day
- Take your pet: pets can visit oceanside beaches until mid-March; pets are allowed at bayside beaches year-round. Pets must always be on a leash.
- Lighthouse tours: it’s the oldest surviving lighthouse in the United States; tours are offered an on first-come, first-served basis from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.; kids must be at least 48 inches tall to climb the tower
- Lighthouse keepers quarters/visitors center: open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Rangers are on hand to answer questions.
- Canoe: the canoe program will be held on Sept. 20 and Sept. 26; call 732-872-5970 for more information.
