West Nile Virus Evidence Found In The Manalapan Area
The county ordered a mosquito spraying for Manalapan this week north of Symmes Road and south of Milford Brook.
MANALAPAN, NJ — The Monmouth County Mosquito Control ordered a mosquito spraying in Manalapan this week after evidence was found of the West Nile virus in the area.
The treatment was scheduled for 4 to 6 a.m. on Thursday north of Symmes Road and south of Milford Brook between Tennent Road and U.S. Highway 9.
“Mosquito spraying is one of the most effective ways to defend against the West Nile virus,” said Commissioner Deputy Director Susan M. Kiley.

The County said it would be applying Zenivex E4 RTU using truck-mounted ultra-low volume equipment.
“The West Nile virus can infect anyone and can cause severe illness which may include fever, headache, body aches and in some cases, a rash," said Deputy Director Kiley.

Because there is "no specific treatment for the West Nile virus" officials recommend that residents take action to avoid getting bitten by using EPA-registered insect repellent, wearing light-colored clothing with long sleeves and pants when possible, limit time outdoors during dusk and dawn when mosquitos are most active and drain standing water as found in gutters or old tires.
